Peace, Be with You

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” – John 14:27 KJV

What we long for and something that we all crave for in the world is peace. We go to the extremes to find it in our lifetime, searching for the one thing we believe will solve our problems. The definition of peace is as follows:

  1. 1:  a state of tranquility or quiet: as a :  freedom from civil disturbance b :  a state of security or order within a community provided for by law or custom <a breach of the peace>

  2. 2:  freedom from disquieting or oppressive thoughts or emotions

  3. 3:  harmony in personal relations

When trials come and danger emerges in the earth something that surfaces on social media is the hashtag #prayforpeace. When we don’t have the answers and are overwhelmed by the destruction in the land we all cry for peace. However, something is missing. There is temporary relief but who comes to our aid when the phone is off and we’re crying in the middle of the night? Who comes to our safety when the silence is so loud and we’ve lost our hope. Who shadows us with mercies and gives us grace to rise up. It is the Lord.

What I’ve learned is that we must call upon God when our hearts seem to faint. We must grab hold to his peace because it saves us and sustains us. That temporary world peace only lasts for so long but there is an enduring peace that only comes from Christ, our Savior.

The moment when I turned to God for peace I felt rejuvenated. I felt replenished and safe. When other stories began to emerge and situations occurred that would have previously shaken me God’s peace prevailed within me. It is a gift and you can receive it when you pray.

Prayer for peace

Father,

It is because of you that I am living today. You have called me to this moment and I am grateful for that. I cannot survive with this world’s definition of peace. I need more of you. I need more of your love. I need more of your guidance so that I may go where you want me to go. Please forgive me for ever doubting you. For ever trusting in fear instead of your mercy. I believe that you have given me peace and I receive it now. Thank you for believing in me. Thank you for never giving up on me. Help me to love others the way that you love me and to be an example of your peace here on the earth. With You, all things are possible.

Amen.
