The Weight of the World

With the weight of the world on your shoulders, it is hard to see the light of day. Lift up your head, your healer is near.

For so long, I had “fixed” my own problems. The routine was simple: Worry, rationalize, cry. Crying became my solution and if I had not addressed what was bottled up soon enough, a rush of rage would spew out onto my oppressor. Tears on my pillow every night had become normalcy. By morning I’d shrug off my worries and hope to see a brighter day. I knew that I needed help but I didn’t know where to start.

“Chin up.” “It’s not that bad.” “You will be alright.” These are a few of the phrases we hear from others or ourselves. We are taught to keep that Superman “S” on our chests. To shake it off and keep moving. However, pain and trauma can leave us mentally paralyzed and emotionally drained. When we bear the burdens of life without remedy, we eventually become overwhelmed by the heaviness.

“Do-it-yourself Christianity is not much encouragement to the done-in and worn-out. At some point we need more than good advice; we need help.” – Max Lucado

Today, I need you to address something. I need you to address that you don’t have it all together. Your pieces to the puzzle may be scrambled all over. However, you have the  power to change your position right now. By giving your burden to God, you authorize Him to come to your rescue. Tell Him about your pain and hold nothing back. Tell Him about the bitterness. He wants to heal you. You were born to be free.

Scriptures for healing:

“So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” – Isaiah 41:10

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” – Matthew 11:28

“Lord my God, I called to you for help, and you healed me.” – Psalm 30:2

“I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper to be with you forever-the Spirit of truth.” – John 14:16,17
